1. Pawandeep Rajan Becomes Uttarakhand’s Brand Ambassador for Art, Tourism, Culture

  • Indian Idol 12 Winner Pawandeep Rajan made Uttarakhand’s Brand Ambassador for Art, Culture, Tourism.

  • He is a resident of Champawat in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand.

2. Declare Cow as India’s National Animal, says Allahabad High court

  • Observing that “country will be only safe, only when there would be the welfare of cows, than only country would prosper”, the Allahabad High Court declined to grant a bail to a man accused of cow slaughtering – also calling to the centre to bring a bill in the Parliament and declare “cow as a National Animal”.

  • The court also said that if the accused was released on bail, “he will again do the same work which will spoil the harmony in the society”.

3. Cooking gas gets higher, again and again

  • LPG refills again became costlier by Rs 25 each on Wednesday morning, Marking the second increase in fortnight and taking the total price rise since January to Rs 190 per cylinder. The Price of a 19 kg Commercial cylinder has also increased by Rs 75 per cylinder.

  • The prices of domestic LPG has more than doubled from Rs 410.50 in Delhi on March 1, 2014. The subsidy was done away from May 2020 by bringing the price of domestic LPG at par with market rates through small hikes.

  • The International Day for the People of African Descent is celebrated for the first time on 31 August 2021.

  • Through the observance the UN aims to promote the extraordinary contribution of the African diaspora around the world & to eliminate all forms of discrimination against people of African descent.

7. WCD Ministry to celebrate POSHAN Maah across nation in September

  • As a part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has decided to celebrate the POSHAN Maah across the nation throughout the month of September.

  • The weekly theme of the activities will be taken up from – 1st to 7th September is – Plantation acti vity as “Poshan Vatika”. The theme for 8th to 15th September week is Yoga and AYUSH for Nutrition while the theme for the third week is – Distribution of “Regional Nutrition Kit” to Anganwadi beneficiaries of High Burdened Districts.

9. Bangladeshi Vaccine scientist wins Ramon Magsaysay award

  • A Bangladeshi vaccine scientist and microfinance pioneer from Pakistan were among the five recipients of this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award regard as the Asian Version of the Nobel Prize announced.

  • Apart from Dr. Firdausi Qadri from Bangladesh and Muhammad Amjad Saqib from Pakistan, the other winners are Filipino fisher and community environmentalist Roberto Ballon, American Steven Muncy for humanitarian and refugee assistance and Indonesia torch bearer for investigative journalism Watchdoc.

10. Shuttler Bhagat begins well in quest for missing Paralympics gold

  • Top seed Pramod Bhagat began his campaign in the men’s singles SL3 category in fine style by beating compatriot Manoj Sarkar 21-10, 21-23, 21-9. Affected by polio at the age of five , the 33 year old current Asian and world champion- he’s won four gold medals at world championships as well- had developed a defect in his left leg.
