1. Majuli

Majuli is one of the most prominent river island in the world. It is considered as one of the largest  river island in the world with a area of more than 1200Km2. But due to excessive arise of flood from last some decades the area has decreased to 600Km2. It has a lush green environment and a pollution free water island in the river Brahmaputra. It is located 20-25 Km from Jorhat City and 350 kms from Guwahati. It attracts the tourists from all over the world. Majuli is also mainly famous for its arts and culture which attracts the tourist most. The famous Dance Form of Majuli is “Sattriya Nritya” for this reason it is also called as cultural capital of Assam. The most exciting and joyfull festival of Majuli is Rass which is famous in throughout the world.

2. Kaziranga National Park

It is considered as one of the largest National Park in Assam with an area of 430Km2. This National park is located in the North Eastern Region of Assam and is shared with mainly three districts of Assam such as:- Golaghat, Nagaon and Karbi Anglong. From the City Guwahati it takes approximately five hours by road. This National Park is famous for its “One Horned Rhino” and it is one of India’s National treasures in terms of flora and fauna. It also receives massive amount of rainfall from the month April-July. Here you can also get varieties of fauna including one horned rhino, wild water Buffalo, leopards, Asiatic elephants and Royal Bengal Tiger.

It is also listed as Tiger Reserve and is home to be one of the world’s largest population of tiger. In the year 1985, this National Park was awarded with the status of a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.



3. Guwahati

It is Considered as the Gateway of North-East, India. Guwahati is the largest city in the state Assam and it is also one of the largest Metropolitan city in the North-East Region. Few Years ago, The Government of India has declared as the first Smart City of Assam. The Capital of Assam is Dispur which is located also within the city Guwahati. The City Guwahati is famous for its one of the most ancient and prominent Temple of Assam is “Kamakhya Temple”, which is located at the top of Nilachal Hill where Lakhs of devotees visit to this holy temple at the time of Ambachi Mela each year. This city is also well connected to the other regions of the state. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport is the first International Airport in the entire North East located in the city Guwahati. India’s first fully solar powered Railway station is Guwahati Railway Station.    

4. Mayong

Mayong is also known as the “Land of Black Magic” which is situated at the distance of 45km from the city Guwahati. Mayong Village comes under the district Morigaon. It is also surrounded by Pobitara Wildlife Sanctuary which attracts for its scenic beauty. This village is a famous tourist spot and tourists comes from throughout the world to learn Black Magic. Traditionally, Magic was practised in this town since generation after generation. There are also some ancient ruins of Ayurveda which is most probably stored in the Mayong Central Museum for tourist attraction.

5. Umananda Island

Umananda is considered as the smallest river island in the world. It lies at the heart of the mighty river Brahmaputra which flows through out the middle of the city Guwahati. The scenic beauty and environment of Umananda is soothing and very calm.  It was also known as the Peacock Island among the British colonists on its shape. Major attraction of this river island is Umananda Devi Temple which is dedicated to lord Shiva.

6. Jorhat

It is considered as the “Tea Capital of India”. Jorhat city is located at the Eastern Region of Assam at a distance of 306Km from Guwahati and around 140Km from Dibrugarh. It is also known as Educational Hub of Assam. In Commercial and cultural way it is known as the second largest city of Assam.  Tea Plantations are the main agricultural parts of this city and the entire city is surrounded with numerous tea garden. The Most Oldest and Famous place for Worship in Assam is Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar also situated here. From the town Jorhat we can also visit to river island Majuli which is 20Km away and it can be accessed by ferries from Nemati Ghat.

7. Sualkuchi

The Sualkuchi village is also named as a “Manchester of the East”.  This small village has a rich heritage if its culture and tradition which displays in its best form. For weaving it is considered as the best for its skills. The world Famous “Muga” Silk is mainly found in this small village. It Situated at the northern bank of River Brahmaputra and from the city Guwahati tourister can easily visit to this small village as it is only 50 Kms away.

8. Sivsagar

Sivsagar is considered as the capital city of Ahom Dynasty. From the city Jorhat it is  only 58Km away. This city is also famous for its ancient architectural marvels, history and culture. One of the oldest and famous temple of Assam “Sivadol” is also situated here. Some of the most popular place are Joysagar, a man made lake, Ahom Museum, Rudrasagar and Gaurisagar are also situtated here. Kareng Ghar and Rang Ghar is a famous monuments which attracts the tourist throughout the nation.

9. Sarthebari

Sarthebari is a small city under Barpeta District. and it is considered as the “Metal Hub of World”. The city is 90km away from Guwahati. This small city is famous for its “Brass and Bell Metal” which is considered as World Famous. The entire city has a small  factory of Metal in each and every house of the city. The Handwork and craftmenship attract the tourist most. One of the Oldest Jagannath Temple of Assam is Situated here. At the ending month of February a festival is held every year where lakhs of devotes visit.

10. Bongaigaon

Bongaigaon city comes in the lower Assam area. It is in the extreme west of Guwahati. The city has a rich heritage of historical buildings, old temples and forests which attracts the tourister most. It is also well known for its petrochemical industry. Bongaigaon was the last capital of Kamatur Kingdom. The scenic beauty of City Bongaigaon is well preserved. This city is also famous for the Buddhist culture which can be seen in its hilly caves . Bongaigaon is also an entry point of Manas National Park which is considered as one of the World Heritage site by UNESCO. Last year Government of India has also declared that a “Logistic Hub” will be established in Bongaigaon.
